Games Without Borders Sports-day Mezõvári

On the 30of August our village took part in the Transcarpathian Mezõvári on a very great day, which name was: Games Without Borders Sports-day . This programme started on the local sport-ground in the afternoon. There was a competition between Transcarpathian and Hungarian teams in different sports and folk derring-do. 6 teams took part on these sports. By name:
· Tarpa I. The best part of Kuruces Tarpa
· Tarpa II. Wild Piglets Tarpa
· Budapest Mixed BuTarpa Budapest Tarpa mixed team
· Mezõvári I. Wobler Mezõvári
· Mezõvári II. Dózsa Mafia Mezõvári
· Mezõvári III. 8-set out Mezõvári

All the teams had 8 members: 2 women and 6 men. After the formal sport programmes the public had an opportunity to make free competitions under the supervisions of the formal trainers.

Trunk-throwing. In this sport the males of the team (4 members / team) had to stand by a marked line. They were wanted to throw the trunk below or above their heads. The most points were given to that team who threw the trunk further. At the end points were added to each other. Everybody had just one possibility.

Barrel-wheeling. This sport needed 4 male members from each team. They had to wheel the barrels among straw-bales. 2 teams could play at the same time. The quickest team got the most points.

Cart-pulling. 6 men had to push and pull the carts. 2 women participants were sitting on the carts and controlled it. They had to pull the carts among straw-bales. The most points were given to the fastest team.

Wooden Mallet-throwing. 2 women and 2 men took part in this programme. They had to throw away the wooden mallet from a given white line as far as they could. The most points were given to that team, which throw the mallet the further.

Running in a sack. One member of the team was fighting for victory and two other members were preparing. 2 men and 2 women went away from the start line, went round the straw-bales in slalom then returned. The fastest group got the most points.

Spread-out (clothes). 2 men and 2 women could play this game. They had to run to a tight rope and take 5 kitchen-towels from the basket onto the rope with the help of 2 tweezers. The next player took off these towels. 2 members had to take the towels on and 2 members off. The quickest team got the most points.

Running with a sack. Only men take part in this sports. In a slalom mode they had to run till the straw-bales and back with a heavy sack. 2 teams could compete at the same time. The most points went for the quickest team.

Tub-carrying. Playing this game all men from the teams carry a tub (or a barrel) at the height of breast among straw-bales in slalom mood. The players had to go till the last bale and then quickly return to the start line. 2 teams can take part at the same time. The fastest team won.

Shred-ball. Every member of the team could try to kick a goal. That team won which had the most goals.

Tug-of-war. After the sound of a whistle two teams pulled the two ends of a rope. The target: pull away the other team minimum 5 metres from the starting line. That team won, which could do it in the shortest time.
We saw a very exciting friendly football match between Mezõvári SE Old Boys till the publicity of results. In the halftime the results were told. Every team got a certificate and a charter. The first three teams were rewarded by a cup. Pál Hídvégi Üstös handed over prizes and offerings.

After it we could take part in a running till the dike of the Tisza with Pál Hídvégi Üstös, the Ambassador of the Tisza. It was getting dark when an international musical-dancing merriment began. In the late evening we might see a firework.
The programme was completed with the introduction of Transcarpathian craftsmen.
