Ceremonial flag-unfolding Tarpa-Mezõvári-Beregszász

On the 21 and 22 of May, 2009 repeating the history of 1703, there was a symbolic flag-unfolding, which was joined with a recruiting in Tarpa, Vári and Beregszász. 20 men (10 colonels, 10 hajdúsoldiers) and 10 women were wearing period Kuruc dresses. Period guns (sabres, rifles, fokoses, unbent scythes) and a sort of carts took back the participants and the public into the early 18 century, onto the main-square of the village.

The programme began with a period scene, which was performed by the Kuruces of Tarpa; its basic is the work of Tamás Bárány and its title is: Flags of RákócziThe first location was the park of the local Culture-house where the forest of Szalánc (Salánk) was appeared before the participants when Tamás Esze arrives from monarch FerencRákóczi from the castle of Brezán and brings himself a flag and a manifesto (which is presented by the glorious monarch) (20 May 1703)

A healthy way of life from local food-tasting waited the public of Tarpa on the yard of the Culture-house. Then a reformed service was held in the church. During the service the carts went round the village and then till the end of the service they arrived to the main-square, which is before the church. (21 May 1703)
And now the second scene comes, when the people of Tarpa unfold the flag. A long chime of bells promulgates the start of the scene. Esze read the manifesto from Brezánand he chose lieutenants. His lieutenants were sworn in during an ornate ceremony. This event was followed by music of violins. TamásEsze and the mayor of Tarpa (who was now a lieutenant) flew the flag and envisaged the manifesto onto the door of the mayor s office.
After a short rest the people went to the border area of Badalóto get across the green border - how their ancestors did - to go to the second location of the flag unfolding into Mezõvári. Some curious guests escorted the carts till the green border because they wanted to be the witnesses of this historical event, which was not seen from the Peacemaking of Trianon. Next day in Mezõvári the programme continued with a flag unfolding. In the morning the flag unfolding was done. In the afternoon in Beregszász we wreathed the statues of Tamás Esze and Ferenc Rákóczi II. Tamás Esze flew the flag here, too. Then there was a festive occasion and we could hear songs from the members of Beregszász Pensioner Club.
